Discipline!

So, what I am working on now? Discipline (if you didn't already guess from the post title). I am trying to be on time with appointments, phone calls, deadlines...basically everything. Actually, with deadlines I'm trying to be early.

How is it going for me?

Not so great. The first day of my commitment, I was only five minutes late to work! That wasn't so good. But then I was actually early to the work meeting that weekend. Check me out ;)

But I relapsed this weekend in another aspect of time management. For two night in a row I hung out when I could have been doing work for one of those night (a girl's gotta go out sometime!). But I can't let it happen again.

If you know me, you know that I'm not on time for anything. I just make deadlines. I can't get up in the morning. I've been doing for a long time, so it seems to be a pretty hard habit to break.

Well, f*** you bad habit!

Soooo...

Even though no one is going to read this, I thought I would blog anyway just to get the ball rolling. What will I blog about? IDK. We'll just see what happens really.

Yesterday, I had dinner with my really good friend and it was so nice to have someone understand where I've been these last couple of years. I've read that there's this whole cultural phenomena of the "quarter-life crisis" going on, and I've heard of a few different experiences first-hand--me being a quarter of a century and all. But my friend and I, being so much alike, seemed to be at the same place, albeit not at the same time. Out in the world, trying to be a grown-up while pursuing dreams. It's hard out there for a pimp, but in my heart I know we can do what it is that we set out to do. Even if we have to ball our eyes out every now and then, that's OK to me, as long as we keep on trying.

OK, corny part over ;)

As I was looking over my Bucket List, I realized that maybe a green thumb isn't something that one can actually acquire, but rather something you are born with, like a natural gift. Or maybe I just don't take the time to show my plants love. Another one of my aloe vera plants died. It's so sad typing this. I hate to say it, but I am a plant murder and I'm not doing it on purpose. I'm going to try again, but if this one doesn't survive, I may have to research an easier plant to start out with.

Project 5!!

So class is coming to an end...today! It was great. I definitely learned things I think will be VERY useful. Out of all the projects, I think I like the video/Premiere project the best. I had some fun with that one, plus Premiere was totally new for me but I was still able to grasp the basics O.K.

Anyway, for project 5 we did a 3D object. Here are some still from my water sculpture/wishing fountain/bench/commemorative piece:

For Project 3...Minimalism

For my design class Project 3, we had to pick an art movement and create an informative presentation using Adobe InDesign. I chose Minimalism.

I chose Minimalism because I love the style. I kind of dress minimalist. I like minimalist decor. It just looks so modern and neat to me. Anyway, I based the layout of my presentation on a sculpture by Donald Judd (see below). What I also enjoy about minimalism is that things that can be perceived as ordinary objects are considered art. Here are some of my slides. (Click on images to see them bigger.)

I based my presentation layout on this Donald Judd piece on the left. He made it in different colors throughout the years, but I liked this gold one for the presentation.

Imagery

I don't know why, but I love coming up this street by College Creek. Here are some pics I took:

(Please ignore the timestamp...I didn't know it was there.) With this one, I like the peacefulness of the scene.

With these two, I did two different focuses and played around with cropping. The first one, to me, looks more like "journey." But the second looks more like "home." What do you see?

Movie Review

On Sunday, me, Juju, my brother and his girlfriend went out for sushi and a movie. For sushi, we went to a place called Nano in downtown Annapolis. I liked the feel of the place. It had bright golden yellow walls that make you (or maybe just me) feel really cool.

Picture of Nano from Yelp review.

The artworks on the walls were pretty cool, and what you can't see on the other side of the restaurant is above the cashier area, they have a whole bunch of Naval Academy people hats. I wonder where they got all those hats from... The hats weren't exactly Asian-inspired decor, but they definitely fit into Annapolis.

The movie we saw was "Get Him to the Greek" and it was effin' HILARIOUS!!!!! You need to go see it, like, right now. I love Russell Brand anyway, and this just made me love him even more. He is so funny. So is Jonah Hill. P. Diddy was...ehhh. Actually, he did better than I thought he would.

It's funny because the movie had the same kind of brightness to it that Nano did. You know how some movies have a somber, dark look to it? Well, this had a bright, uppy, comedic look to it. Anyway, I loved it--can't wait 'til it comes out on DVD.
